Introducing Youth to the Entertainment Industry

Industry skills training.
Beyond the Mic (BtM) conducts workshops and seminars to expose youth participants to various entertainment occupations. Guest speakers and facilitators represent the different areas of the industry – including (but not limited to) sound engineers, set designers, business managers, stylists, prop designers, special effects, tour managers, personal assistants, camera operators, etc.

After school/Saturday programs
Classes/presentations are scheduled at collaborating schools and at various locations on weekends.
BtM continually seeks to partner with local studios/facilities to further introduce youth to hands-on experiences with equipment and on-site visits.

Interpersonal Skills Development
Provides presentations (panel discussions and one-on-one) on personal grooming, social graces, networking, resume building, job interviewing, and time management. These classes are designed to educate and build the confidence of the program participants.

Networking and Capacity Building
BtM invites entertainment industry power brokers for networking and mentor recruitment. The networking/capacity building events include keynote speakers and certificates of appreciation presentations. These events showcase BtM programs to aid in recruiting volunteer mentors, speakers and sponsors.

Recognition and Fundraising
BtM presents special awards to deserving youth, mentors, and entertainment industry professionals that participate in the programs. The awards dinner, various events, and silent auctions help to fund organizational activities.
